Shaver Lake

This weekend we went camping at Shaver Lake with some of our closest friends from college. Andrew and I heard about Shaver Lake a few years ago when we were searching for camping spots halfway between Sacramento and San Diego. Shaver Lake looked gorgeous,  however it is really difficult to get reservations there since it's such a popular destination.

Earlier this summer, a group of us from college were throwing around dates for a camping trip. Andrew called Shaver and they had an available site for this weekend, which happened to work for most of the group! I quickly faxed in our reservation form, and luckily we got a site reserved.

Shaver Lake is in the Sierra National Forest, and the setting is similar to Tahoe. The lake is surrounded by pine trees and mountains in the distance. It was a perfect place to spend time with friends and relax at the lake. The campground itself is really nice. Our campsite was quite large, and there are amenities like volleyball and basketball courts, as well as a little general store.

We spent the majority of the day Saturday down at the lake. One of our friends brought a huge 6 person raft, as well as some other floaty's so we tied ourselves to a buoy and lounged in the sun. The evenings we spent in camp making dinner, and playing catch phrase and talking around the fire.

It was a short trip, since we arrived late Friday night and check out time was at 11am on Sunday. But at the same time it was nice to be home early Sunday to get ready for the work week. We all agreed we should go back next summer. I didn't realize that it was a small mountain town, and not just the campground. There were bars and restaurants that would have been fun to explore if we had more time. Maybe next year we'll rent a cabin since the campground fills up so quickly.

Have you ever been to Shaver Lake?

I hope you all had a great weekend!

xoxo,

Theresa

  4. I've been hearing about Shaver Lake all over blogland recently it seems like. I think 3 to 4 bloggers, including you, have been there recently! I guess it's time to add that to our future camping site list.

Glad you had a good time!
