Guest Post: My Fall Closet Wish List

My lovely friend Kasey at Life and Love with Mr. Wonderful was kind enough to do a guest post for me while I'm away. Kasey and I became fast friends and I love emailing back and forth with her each day. We have so much in common, and hopefully someday soon we'll get to have a 'blate' and meet in person! She has such great style, and has pulled together some of the cutest looks for Fall! We both have an undying love for all things Fall, and of course Fall fashion is near the top of that list! You should also check out the adorable Fall wreath she just made! Can you come decorate my house too?

Hello From Foothills to Fog readers! I'm so happy that my new & wonderful friend Theresa asked me to guest post while her and Andrew are having a blast down in Cabo. I'm SO jealous! Theresa, please stuff me in your suitcase, so I can come too. I promise that I won't act like a clingy third wheel. :)

Today, I wanted to share some items that I've wanted to add to my closet collection. A blog friend of mine, Lacey from sunny & turquoise, did this post a few weeks ago and I thought it was such a fun idea. So, I decided to be a copycat and do that exact same post. There's just so many pretty things that I want to buy for fall, but my husband and my wallet wouldn't really appreciate that so much. *budget* *budget* *budget*. I'm still pretty much in denial about my online shopping addiction. I'm sure there's some of you out there as well. It's okay, I won't tell. All of these are pinned to my 3 fashion inspired Pinterest boards. Yes, three. I just love that website. Thank you Pinterest creators for making my shopping list grow on a daily basis. Now, getting dressed in the morning isn't so bad. My husband isn't a huge fan of you, but it's okay, he'll get over it. Now if only I could take outfit photos like the ladies above....

Thank you so much, Kasey! You've inspired me to go shopping when I get back from Cabo!

If you haven't already, go check out Kasey's blog! She's always sharing cute outfit posts, weekend recaps, and has fun recap posts during Bachelor/Bachelorette season, which I love!

Guest Post: Erin @ Cali-Land-Chic

Hello from Cabo!! While I'm lounging poolside with a cocktail, I hope you enjoy this post from my lovely friend Erin! She agreed to this only if I promised to send her my tan upon my return, I'm still working on figuring that one out...

Erin is the sweetest! We were destined to become friends, I swear! For now, we'll have to settle for long distance friendship since she's all the way on the East Coast. But someday, I'm going to convince her to move back to the Bay Area so we can hang out all the time!

**********

Well hello Foothills to Fog readers! My name is Erin from Cali-Land Chic and I am thrilled to be guest posting for my girl Theresa, while she is soaking up that Mexican sun and tequila in Cabo (foolish...). As much as I want to be there with her (which wouldn't be weird for Andrew at all...) alas I am here, sitting at my desk in Maryland twiddling my thumbs and pretending that drinking Captain Morgan out of my parrot cup means I too am on vacation... You should join me, its fun and not pathetic at all.
You're welcome.

Like I said before we all got cheap alcohol headaches and broken dreams of fun filled vacations; Theresa is on holiday and has left me in charge of her blog today. She is brave that girl...

First I wanted to note that we have several things in common:

We both are from CA.
We both love San Francisco (but only one of us lives there).
We both love food.
We both love the best sports teams on the planet.
And we both have really adorable other halves.

You see, I grew up in Northern California and now reside in Maryland. So for me it has always been a battle of West vs. East. Most days the East wins but lately I have been missing CA a lot. So today I thought we would battle:

West vs. East (very hip hop of me...)

On the West Coast the seasons stay the same.
On the East Coast we have 4 full seasons, one of my favorite being fall
BOOM...leaves.

On the West Coast people drink coffee with their meals:
On the East Coast we drink beer (with our crabs):
And you don't mess with East Coast (MARYLAND) crabs - they are the best. No contest.

On the West Coast they have Wine Country:
On the East Coast we have (Virginia) Wine Country (point to the West on this one):
 (Not a bad representation...)

On the West Coast they have In-N-Out Burger:
On the East Coast we have Five Guys (no comparison).

On the West Coast people are nice and relaxed.
On the East Coast THIS is the regular:

On the (northern) West Coast the beaches are cold.
On my East Coast the beach is right outside my door (for the win!):
On the East Coast you have snow:
lots and lots of snow...
On the (California - I know it snows other places) West Coast you grow up with a windbreaker as your heaviest jacket.

But most important of all:
The West Coast has this girl:
The East Coast has this girl:
The two must really come together soon!?! Don't you think?

Who won? It's too hard to choose! What coast would win your battle???

Thanks for letting me into your lives today - come on over and say hi! I blog about my dog, my house, my husband, DIY projects and my ridiculous life.

I would love to meet you!

Oh and thank you Theresa for having me here! Enjoy the rest of your vacation! Bring me back something tropical and alcoholic. ;) Mmmkay.

Guest Post: Erica @ Nannypology

Happy Monday! While Andrew and I are away this week, I have some wonderful guest posts lined up for you! Starting with my beautiful friend Erica!

We're friends in real life and she happens to have her own blog where she shares stories from her job as a nanny. She's funny, smart, a great travel buddy and an even better friend! I know you'll love her as much as I do...

**********

Hi readers of From Foothills to Fog! I am Erica of the famous blog Nannypology. What? You haven’t heard of me?! That’s terrible. Well… you have now!

The beautiful and amazing Theresa has asked me to write a guest post for her blog while she is sunbathing and relaxing in Mexico. Thanks a lot T, I’ll just slave away while you’re drinking margs on the beach! REAL COOL!

Just kidding. I am happy to oblige and I am sure she’d do the same for me. (Right?!?)

I bet you didn’t know that I too am from the foothills, just like Theresa. In fact, we know each other in REAL LIFE! Can you believe it? I know, it’s shocking that people have real life friends anymore, but believe it baby!

So yeah, we’re good friends. Like… she comes over and we drink wine in our PJs, friends. Like… I’ve known her since we were 14 and I threw up at her house party, friends.  Like… we’ve sailed in the Caribbean and survived Vegas together, friends.

That says a lot.

So how did we both end up here, together in the virtual world as bloggers and in the real world in San Francisco? Cause both of those ‘places’ are where the cool kids hang out, as we both clearly are.

We’re both super awesome, and boy am I glad she ended up in this amazing City by the Bay with me! But our paths here, whichever “here” I am referring to, were quite different.

E: Saw the pretty Theresa at freshman orientation. She was sweet and we had mutual buddies so, BOOM friends for life.

T: I guess she thought I was okay too.

A few (ish) years later...

E: Moved to SF in 2009 the second I graduated college. My BF lived here so I was jamming here too!

T: Moved to SF in January 2012 after wanting to make the move for a long time (what can I say, visiting me was that fun!)

E: Moved with no job lined up, oh well, I knew it would come.

T: Waited patiently for the ‘job’ to come along and lined her ducks up nicely before taking the plunge (smart lady she is!)

E: Got a job as a nanny within a ‘couple’ months and made it work.

T: Stayed with her dear friend Erica until she found the perfect apartment.

E: Loved having various house guests while T and many of our friends moved to the city.

T: Being the creative soul that she is, always wanted to blog as an outlet for this side of her.

E: Always enjoyed writing and has dreams of being a children’s book author one day (Besides my senior project, which was uh… ‘Self published’).

T: Likes her job but really needs to find that outlet. Did I mention she’s incredibly crafty? And loves taking pictures too? It’s all adding up…

E: I’m not crafty. Or very organized. But I AM funny. At least I think that I am (don’t tell me the truth).

T: Spends lots of time thinking of the perfect name for her blog. I love it. Nailed it.

E: Spends a day or two researching avenues to get a start in writing… (Besides what Theresa had told me, “blog” wasn’t really in my vocab).

T: Life gets in the way and From Foothills to Fog gets a bit of a “fog delay”. Too much fun can do that!

E: I figured out that my nanny job wasn’t going to last forever, and simultaneously decided that nannying was not what I wanted to do as a career. Writing fever set in!

T: Enjoying SF life and all that it has to offer, every weekend becomes a potential blog post. She’s ready.

E: One dreary Tuesday night, I get on wordpress (through a long-winded Google search) and nannypology.com is born. “It’ll be fun,” I thought. “It will let me know if I am good at this ‘writing’ thing after all” I considered. “People will totes laugh!” I knew…

T: After careful consideration, Theresa chooses blogger as her platform, and puts the site into action.

E: Winging it, I figure out how to build my site and click ‘publish’ without thinking twice. It becomes a ‘work in progress’.

T: Writes a beauty of an intro and has a whimsical, beautiful layout.

E: Through trial and error, I am pretty happy with my layout as well!

T: Flourishes. Experiencing even more of the Foothills AND the Fog (and beyond!) than before, and lucky for me, takes pictures of all the cool stuff we do together! (Score! I can be a slacker!)

E: Loves continuing to wing it, loves being able to write whenever and however I want, loves getting ‘validation’ that sometimes I AM funny, and loves the many doors that this ‘blogging’ thing is opening. Cool stuff.

T: Has realized her dream of being a successful blogger.

E: Proud to have been asked to be her first guest post. (And you know what? I am sure I won’t be her last!)

T and E: Still the best of friends in the real world and beyond, my wine is always chilling for you girl!

Cheers to winging it.

Erica

Cabo Packing List

We're in full swing packing mode over here! I am the worst over-packer. It's a sickness really. I am so indecisive and can never decide which items to bring. We're going to Cabo, so I know it's pretty basic. Bathing suits and covers ups. And even though I know this, there is a massive pile of clothes currently covering our guest bed, waiting to either be packed or put away. Hopefully this list will help me keep it under control.

I like to pretend I'm going to look half as effortlessly-chic as these ladies!

While we're away next week, I have some ahhh-mazing guest posts lined up for you. Let me tell ya, you're in for a real treat while I'm away!

I'm sure I'll be checking in via Instagram and Twitter throughout the week, but I'll be back with the full report when we get home. Hopefully the storm isn't too bad, and we don't get too much rain. I need to work on my tan!

Have a lovely week my friends! I'll be basking in the sun with a margarita, don't miss me too much!

Homemade Garlic Chili Sauce

When Andrew and I were at the farmers market when his mom was visiting, we bought a huge bunch of Thai chili peppers. We (Andrew especially) love spicy foods and hot sauce. We almost always have jalapeños, habaneros or another type of pepper in the house. And Andrew puts sriracha on everything. So when we saw these chili's at the market for only one dollar, we knew we'd use them for something.

Last week, we made spicy basil chicken and added some of these chili's for extra heat. They were great, and spicy! We still had a ton left over, so Andrew had the idea to make our own garlic chili sauce. We use this kind all the time, so we thought it would be fun to make our own and see how they compare.

We followed this recipe Andrew found online. It was pretty simple, but be warned, it's almost like someone sprayed pepper spray in the house when you cook the peppers! We were both coughing and had to open the windows!

The sauce turned out really well. It looks almost the same as the store bought kind, except there is less liquid. We weren't sure if that was because of the type of pepper we used or what, but the flavor is great, and very spicy! I think I'll make lettuce wraps this week since I always use chili paste when I make those. The recipe says it's supposed to last up to two weeks in the fridge, so we'll have time to experiment with other recipes too.

If you happen to have some peppers laying around, you should give this a try. It was fun to make. Plus, there are no strange ingredients or preservatives in this version, bonus! I was thinking it would also make a great gift. You could package it in a cute little mason jar like this, then tie some jute ribbon or twine around it and hang dried chili's from it! I'll have to remember that...

Are you a fan of spicy foods?

I need to step up my Instagram game! What a a quiet month. But in reality, we were busy as usual. I feel like I say this every month, but I can't believe it's already September. We've been going non stop and I am so looking forward to our upcoming trip to Cabo! I can't wait to slow down, and just relax and enjoy the sunshine. Even though we've escaped the San Francisco weather a number of weekends, it hasn't really felt like a true summer. I'm looking forward to making up for it with a week on the beach with my toes in the sand!

I hope you're all having a great week!

Pinterest Pesto

I love long weekends. The extra day always makes me feel so refreshed, and ready to face the week ahead. We didn't have a particularly exciting Labor Day weekend, but it was productive.  Laundry is done and put away, the house is sparkling clean, we ran a few errands, and even managed to squeeze in a trip to Berkeley for the Cal vs. Northwestern football game. All in all, it was a great weekend. Good to finally spend some time at home.

Sunday morning, Andrew and I treated ourselves to a cappuccino and walked down to the farmers market to get a few things for the week. They had huge bundles of fresh basil for only $1 so we decided it would be the perfect opportunity to make fresh pesto. My mom usually makes a big batch and freezes some to use throughout the cooler months when her garden is no longer overflowing with fresh basil. We thought it was a brilliant idea, and wanted do the same.

I'd seen the idea on Pinterest to freeze pesto in ice trays for easy to use portions, and I'd been wanting to test it out. I referred to this recipe for the pesto, but I didn't measure anything, just used my best judgement. I'd say we used significantly less oil than it called for, and double the basil. I hadn't heard of adding lemon to pesto before, but we have a meyer lemon tree in our backyard, so I figured why not add some lemon zest and fresh squeezed juice. It's a very subtle flavor, but I liked it!

It made enough to fill one ice tray, and about a quarter cup we put in a jar to use this week. Once it was frozen, I used a knife to help pry each cube out of the ice tray and then transferred them into a freezer bag. I had sprayed the ice tray lightly with cooking spray before filling it with pesto, but I still needed the knife to help remove each pesto cube from the tray.

I'm looking forward to getting a taste of summer later this year when we use it. There is a small Italian market near our house, I think I'll have to buy some fresh pasta to pair with our pesto for a simple weeknight dinner. Or maybe we'll attempt making our own fresh pasta...

I hope you all had a great weekend as well! Have you ever made fresh pesto?
