Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

With the launch of the Nordstrom Sale, it always feels like summer is coming to an end. And although it is bittersweet, Fall is my favorite season! Plus, here in San Francisco we pretty much dress for Fall weather year round so I know I'll get plenty of use out of anything I purchase.

Fall is my favorite season to dress for, I always love putting cozy looks together. Since we were on a plane during the early access, and then on vacation the first week of the sale, I missed quite a few items. But there is still some great pieces, and they tend to restock throughout the sale. There are still a few more days to shop, so don't miss out on these great deals.

Did you shop the sale this year? What were your favorite pieces?

Head Shoulders Knees & Toes: Spring Wedding Guest Attire

Head Shoulders Knees & Toes: Spring Wedding Guest

I thought it would be fun to bring back a series that I used to have on the blog called Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes. Basically, outfit ideas inspired by events or seasons. Since wedding season is around the corner, I thought spring wedding guest attire would be an appropriate place to start.

I'm loving full midi skirts right now. They're so feminine, classic, and universally flattering on all body types. I thought the light blue and blush tones of this skirt were perfect for a spring wedding. The simple crepe tank will look great tucked into the skirt, I love how the blush color complements the flowers in the skirt.

Since the skirt is a statement, I paired it with simple accessories. These strappy nude sandals are a closet staple that pair well with anything. I love tassel earrings lately, and these blush ones are fun but not too over the top. And of course, cute sunglasses to complete the look.  I would also carry a simple gold or neutral clutch to hold my lipstick, phone and the essentials. And add a fun pastel nail polish to complete the look. The best part about this outfit, it's completely affordable! I believe fashion doesn't have to cost a fortune. And that you can look & feel great, even when you're on a budget!

So what do you think, is this something you would wear? Usually we have at least five weddings to attend every year, but this year so far we only have two. Next year we're already looking forward to the weddings of two of our closest friends!

Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes - Fall

Cozy Fall Fashion

Cozy Fall Fashion by fromfoothillstofog featuring a crossbody purse

For my birthday, my sister got me this scarf which has quickly become one of my favorite fall pieces! I'm trying to think of as many outfits as possible to wear it with because it's so cozy and warm. As I was searching for outfit inspiration, I decided it'd be fun to create my own with another Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes post, but this time for Fall.

The blue color I have has already sold out, but Nordstrom is having a big sale and they have a ton of great scarves to chose from. They are by far my favorite accessory for Fall, I love that they add interest to simple outfits and take a tee and jeans from boring to pulled together in a few seconds. Not to mention I'm always cold so I need the extra layer. A simple top, jeans & booties is my go-to look for styling scarves, but I also think they look great over a dress with tights and boots for a dressier look. And I love these brown Sam Edelman booties, they're similar to the pair I have and are currently on sale!

As much as I'd love to buy myself a few new items at the Nordstrom sale, I am not allowed to buy myself anything! Because a) 'tis the season for giving with Christmas around the corner and b) I need to completely clean out my closet and get rid of all the things I haven't worn in years. It's all just wasting space and would be better off donated to someone who might enjoy it. Does anyone else have this problem? It's such a daunting task, I need to dedicate an entire day to it. But our closets are overflowing so it's time.

What are your favorite Fall trends? Have you tried any new styles this season?

The idea for this post was originally inspired by Kendi. I'm sure most of you are already followers, but if not hop on over and give her some love. She just opened her new boutique West & Lou!

Scarf Weather - House of Alva

Scarf - c/o House of Alva // White tee - Nordstrom Rack (Similar) //
Vigoss Jeans via Nordstrom Rack (Similar) // Bucco Booties via Hautelook (Similar) //
Watch - Michael Kors // Rings - Nordstrom // Bracelets - Alex & Ani and Kate Spade

As temperatures start to cool down and fall weather really sets in, one thing you can bet every San Francisco girl has on hand is a scarf. With the micro-climates here in the city, you never know when the weather is going to cool off and the wind might pick up. Then the next minute it could be sunny and warm again. The perfect accessory for this situation is a scarf! I always have one in my purse when I'm out and about to throw on when I get chilled.

I was so excited when House of Alva asked me to partner up with them for a post. They have the most beautiful scarves, but more importantly, they are a company with a mission and purpose. The name Alva is inspired by the "noble one." And at House of Alva they celebrate artisans who craft these timeless scarves using a unique and rare artistry. Their motto is "Scarves with a Story" and they focus on being an ethical and socially conscious brand, committed to eco-friendly and sustainable fashion. I really love the concept behind the company, and the idea of supporting these artisans and helping them create revenue in their communities.

In browsing their collection online, there are so many beautiful and unique pieces, it was hard to decide on just one! And I think I may be ordering a few more as gifts for the upcoming holiday season!  I believe they just went on a trip to visit the local artisans and select new scarves for the shop. I keep checking back to see when they are available to purchase! You can get a glimpse on Instagram of what's to come.

I've already styled my new scarf a few different ways. When it was warm a few weeks back, I paired it with a black maxi dress to add a pop of color. And I love the casual feel in these photos when I styled the scarf with distressed jeans, a simple white tee and brown booties. I also plan to dress it up next time I wear it for the office. Pairing it with black pants, a grey top and black wedges. This is my favorite thing about scarves, they're so versatile and easy to style.

I loved working with House of Alva, I always try to support companies that not only have quality products, but also have a meaningful mission behind their brand. I think you'll love the beautiful scarves that House of Alva carries, and you can also find them on Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter and Instagram!

As a special thank you to all my readers, House of Alva is offering a coupon code "FOOT2FOG10" for $10 off your purchase of $50 or more! Shipping is always FREE within the US and for a flat price to other countries.
(coupon will be valid through 11/24/2014)

C'est La Vie

C'est La Vie Tee - JCrew Factory (Similar) // Denim - Vigoss via Nordstrom Rack (Similar) // Heels - Charles by Charles David // Purse - Kate Spade (Similar) // Watch - Michael Kors //
Rings - Nordstrom // Bracelets - Alex & Ani and Kate Spade

Lately, I've been feeling the need to do a complete closet overhaul. I'm just dissatisfied with everything in my closet. I haven't really shopped much in the last couple years, at least not like I did before moving to SF! And while I do have some key pieces I still feel good in, for the most part I just feel like everything is old and dingy looking. So, I'm slowly starting to add new pieces to my wardrobe that I feel more confident in.

One of my more recent purchases was this cute graphic tee from J. Crew Factory, a steel for $25 and an additional 30% off with a coupon I found online. I swear, I don't buy anything online without doing a quick coupon search. I usually always find at least 10% off by searching Google and Twitter, totally worth the extra effort. These jeans are an old favorite, Vigoss from Nordstrom Rack years ago, but I wear them all.the.time. They're by far my most worn denim. I love that you can pair a simple tee with jeans and heels for a put together, yet casual look. It works for brunch with the girls, or in this case a casual dinner date mid-week. This look is equally as cute with a pair of leopard or black flats, because you know I'm not walking up and down these San Francisco hills with 4" heels on!

As I mentioned on Twitter earlier this week, I'm going to be starting a new posting schedule on From Foothills To Fog. I was struggling to keep up with everything, and the blog was starting to feel more like a chore and less like the fun hobby I know it is. I think creating a more structured schedule will help me stay organized and prevent weeks of radio silence. There is no lack of inspiration or ideas, it's just about finding the time to sit down and write. So, moving forward you can expect three posts a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The subject matter will be more of the same. I plan to continue sharing all the things I love: recipes, DIY projects, crafts, outfit inspiration, style, interior design, and general lifestyle posts and stories about Andrew and my weekend shenanigans! I hope you'll stick around and follow along!

Thank you all for reading and hanging in there when posting has been more sporadic. This week I reached 100 Bloglovin' Followers as well as 100 Facebook Likes, so Thank YOU!

A big thanks to Andrea Rowe Photography for the lovely pictures!

1960's Style Revisited

Earlier this summer, I spent an embarrassing amount of time online shopping for a Bridesmaid dress. It was quite overwhelming considering how many dresses are out there, I think I ordered 5 before I found the right one!

During my search, I stumbled across a few dresses that immediately brought a smile to my face. Not because they were something that would work for a bridesmaid dress, but because they reminded me of a dress I had loved as a little girl.

When I was little, I spent a lot of time at my Grandma's house. They had this huge basement my cousins and I used to play in. We'd play dress up and put on plays for the adults. My grandparents pretty much let us run wild down there, which as a kid, was awesome! There was a box of clothes for the girls to play dress up with, and in the box were some of my Mom's old dresses from High School Dances. One, was yellow dress with a lace overlay and ribbon sash. Which, if you know my Mom, you'd know she made it herself.

So as you can imagine, while I was browsing online for dresses and came across the three styles below, it brought a huge smile to my face. I immediately emailed the links to my Mom, which she got a kick out of. I vividly remember playing in my Mom's dress, and seeing these modern versions of it brought back so many great memories of playing with my cousins at our Grandparents.

It's so fun to see how styles and trends repeat themselves. I've always said I am an old soul, and I love the classic silhouette of these dresses and the modern spin on 1960's fashion. While I may not be sporting overalls and crop tops, I can definitely get on board with classic pieces like this that are coming back into style.

Yellow Lace Dress

And of course I can't post about my Mom's beautiful dress without sharing a picture. This was my parents Junior Prom in 1968! They got married a few years later in 1972, aren't they so cute!?

What are some trends you're excited to see coming back into style?

Do you think I look more like my Mom, or my Dad?

I hope you all have a great weekend!

Palm Springs Packing Essentials

I'm sooooo excited for my long weekend in Palm Springs celebrating my friends upcoming wedding! We've rented an incredible house with a huge pool and tiki bar! Based on the weather forecast, we'll be spending 99.9% of our time in the pool! Good thing we'll be armed with pool floaties and ice cold beverages!

I've been laying out clothes, trying to decide what to bring, and really there's not much to it! What more could I possibly need than this?.....

Palm Springs

And of course...my packing list has a little something extra because we're having an 80's theme pool day! Oh yes, it's going to be awesome! You have no idea the 80's one-piece gems we've found on Ebay and Etsy! I can't wait to see our pictures from 80's day, I know they're going to be absolutely ridiculous and amazing!

Palm Springs 80's Theme Pool Party

We leave bright and early tomorrow morning so I hope you all have an awesome rest of your week! I have a few posts lined up for you, but if you're curious what a group of 12 crazy girls are up to in Palm Springs, be sure to follow on Instagram for a glimpse at our weekend!

Vegas Style Challenge: Kendra's Night Out

Viva Las Vegas

I was so excited when travel expert Kendra Thorton asked me to participate in her Las Vegas style challenge.

I've been to Las Vegas a handful of times, and each time is different. Although, on my last trip, I decided I was going to break up with Vegas. However, this challenge made me realize, there really is something for everyone in Las Vegas. So I'm open to another trip to Sin City, although a little more toned down and along the lines of the trip Kendra is planning :)

Kendra is a mom of of three, who is planning a much needed getaway to Las Vegas with her girlfriends. One thing she is most looking forward to is visiting the Bellagio Hotel and Casino to see the famous fountain, gardens, and blown glass art display. I remember being awestruck by the gardens in the lobby, and I know she will love it also! They are also planning to either have dinner or brunch at the Jasmine restaurant in the Bellagio, which offers an amazing view of the fountains. Sounds pretty spectacular, if you ask me.

In addition to their plans at the Bellagio Hotel, they may see a show, do some shopping, and spend some time in the casino's of course. I decided to put together a variety of inspiration looks that will take her from the airport, all the way to Sunday brunch.

Vegas Airport Style
The first look I put together will take Kendra from the airport to the Vegas Strip. It's not only comfortable, but fashionable as well. Perfect for walking the strip and taking in the sights. And of course, stopping in for a cocktail and lunch along the way.

After exploring the strip for the afternoon, I'm sure Kendra and her friends will want to come back to their rooms and freshen up for the evening. Especially since they're planning on going to a nice dinner and possibly a show like Cirque du Soleil!

I thought that a simple black jumper would be the perfect base for a sexy outfit, that is still classy and appropriate for a mother of three. I love all the jumpers I've seen in stores lately, I think they are so sexy and chic. I think a simple strappy sandal and minimal gold jewelry is the best compliment to a jumper since it's a statement in itself. And paired with a fun, jeweled clutch and bold lip color. This look is not only stylish, but comfortable for walking around after dinner & a show.

Girls Night in Vegas

The last look I put together is for brunch Sunday morning. I really hope Kendra and her friends decide to do Jasmine's Sunday Fountain Brunch. What a wonderful setting to enjoy brunch! Since it's at the Bellagio in one of the more formal restaurants, I did a classic and feminine look. I love the peplum top paired with a floral skirt pencil skirt. This spring I really love coral lipstick, and I think it pairs perfectly with this feminine outfit.

Brunch in Vegas

Below, I've included Kendra's plan for her weekend away in Las Vegas. Based on her travel plans, do you think I've selected appropriate looks for her trip?

Fashionista: Las Vegas Style!
When I started planning my trip to Las Vegas, I did not give a lot of thought to what I might wear. However, now that I am leaving in just a couple of weeks to meet my friends in Vegas for some relaxation and fun, I am beginning to panic that I might not have the right clothes. As a mother of three, I do not usually spend a lot of time keeping up with the latest trends in fashion. For this reason, I have created the Kendra Fashion Challenge to get your help picking out some amazing outfits for my upcoming trip. One of the activities I am most looking forward to is a visit to the Bellagio Hotel and Casino. This stylish and elegant hotel is known for its famous fountain show that people line up along the strip to see.
While I am sure we will take some time out to watch the fountain show at the Bellagio, our intended destination is the fine dining restaurant, Jasmine. We are excited for the opportunity to breath in the exotics scents of Cantonese, Szechwan, and Hunan cuisines.  Jasmine is decorated with replicated Chinese art and features Nouvelle Hong Kong Cuisine. While we are planning to have diner there, we have the option of attending the Sunday Fountains Brunch in the Jasmine as an exciting option. The Jasmine’s Sunday brunch features several action stations where we can get food made to our taste. Also, the dessert selection is sure to be scrumptious and appealing, including a chocolate fondue. Whether we decide to do an elegant dinner or Sunday brunch, we will have an amazing view of the famous Bellagio fountains.
Now, you see why I am asking for your help with the latest fashion tips. Las Vegas might be the city where what happens there stays there but I do not want to be a fashion faux pas! This is a city with its own vibe and fashion sense.  I know that any evening out will be more enjoyable if I look and feel my best. Whether we are feeding quarters to a slot machine or seeing a glamorous show at one of the best casinos on the strip, I want to be complimented on my outfit and sense of style.  Having a fine dining experience at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino will be the highlight of our trip, so my outfit has to be just as special.
**********

Thank you so much for asking me to participate in this Vegas Style Challenge! It was so fun thinking of outfit ideas that work with your itinerary. I hope you and your girlfriends have a wonderful trip to Vegas, and I hope you'll let us know what looks you decided to put together on your weekend away!

When Life Hands You Lemons...

When Life Hands You Lemons

...Go shopping at Kate Spade! I don't know what it is about this collection, but I want everything!! I simply love the cute, quirky lemon pieces from Kate Spade. Any of them would make a great addition to your spring and summer wardrobe. Nothing like a lemon clutch to add a pop of fun to your look.

I don't know if it's because yellow is such a fun and cheerful color or because the lemons remind me of sipping limoncello in Italy, but I'm tempted to buy each and every one of these items! I'll need to win the lotto first though...

What are you lusting over this spring? Any fun new pieces you're planning to purchase?

Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes

Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes

Even though we're still drying out from the past week of rain, I can't stop thinking about warmer weather and spring fashion. As I was browsing Pinterest the other day, I stumbled across this pin which inspired this outfit. This spring, I am so drawn to florals. I love how a floral print brings such a classic and feminine look to any outfit.

This outfit would be perfect for Easter, brunch with the girls, or a Springtime bridal/baby shower! I'm definitely on the lookout for similar pieces that I can add to my wardrobe and wear once we start having warmer weather. It's not very practical to walk up and down the hills of San Francisco in 4" heels, so I take any chance I get to dust off a pair and get dressed up! I'm looking forward to all the weddings and events we have coming up this Spring and Summer to wear outfits like the one I've put together above.

This post was inspired by the lovely Kendi, at Kendi Everyday. I simply adore her blog and her style! A few months ago, she did a similar post, and I thought it was such a clever way to put an outfit together, going back to basics. It's such a fun concept for layering each piece to create the perfect look.
