Chicago Girls Trip - Part I

I spent this past weekend in Chicago on a little girls trip celebrating our friend Kenzie's 30th birthday. It was my first trip to Chicago, and I feel like we were able to pack a lot in for just a few short days! Since I was the only person who hadn't visited Chicago before, I knew I wouldn't do too many of the touristy things since the other girls had already experienced them. But my friends were so sweet and wanted to make sure I saw the highlights and had the best first experience in Chicago possible. And it was a success! I am already planning a trip back with Andrew during the summer months so we can go to the Art Institute, do an architectural river tour, and spend more time outdoors exploring the city. Although it was mid-may, the temperature was still pretty cold and even got down to the low-mid 40's while we were there! Thankfully, Friday was a beautiful day for the Cubs game! We were able to accomplish nearly everything on my Chicago wish list!

Erica and I flew in on Thursday morning and got settled at our friends apartment, then hit the town to see a few of the sights until Kenzie got off work. We started at "The Bean" and took all of the obligatory photos. It was a nice day so we decided to walk from there up the Magnificent Mile towards the John Hancock Building where we planned to have a drink and enjoy the view. I was so happy it was nice enough to walk because I was able to see the river and appreciate some of the architecture. One of my favorite things about the city was the planters with tulips everywhere. It was so cheerful, you could tell the city comes alive in the spring and summer.

On our flight, I had mentioned to Erica a building my Dad told me about with pieces of other buildings and landmarks built right into the walls, but I didn't know what it was called. As we were walking, Erica realized we were standing right next to it while we waited to cross the street (turns out it's the Tribune Tower). It was so perfect that we stumbled upon it and both got to see it for the first time. After walking around to see the various fragments from famous buildings and landmarks, we continued on to the John Hancock Building for a cocktail. Our timing was perfect because we beat the rush and were able to get a seat right on the window. It was fun to visit and enjoy the view while we waiting for Kenzie to get off work. The view was great, as were our drinks. And surprisingly the best view was from the women's restroom on our way out!

After we left The Signature Room, we had a little time before our dinner reservation. So we stopped at a local bar on the way called Streeters. This is a spot they had both visited on their first trip to Chicago, so now it's become one of their favorite bars. I had heard plenty about it so I was excited we could stop in for a quick drink. Next on the agenda was RPM Italian for dinner! I was so excited to eat here and hoped we would see the Rancics (no luck)! Our dinner was amazing, we ordered a bunch of dishes to share and a bottle of wine. My favorite dishes were the Burrata appetizer and the Agnalloti with sweet peas and prosciutto. But everything we ordered was amazing, I hope they open one in San Francisco because I already want to go back. We had so much fun drinking wine and catching up. Then, after dinner were weren't quite ready to call it a night so we stopped at a bar nearby to watch the rest of the Sharks game, and we even met a few other Bay Area Sharks fans!

It was a great first day in Chicago. I felt like I really got a glimpse of why everyone loves the city so much. Everyone there is so nice and I loved the architecture and what I saw of Kenzie's neighborhood. It made me even more excited for the Cubs game and everything we had planned Friday!

Originally I was planning to do only one Chicago post, but as I started writing and sorting photos I realized it would be way too long, so I decided to break it into multiple posts. More of our trip to Chicago to come on Thursday...
